Individual Counseling

Personal

Beginning with your story

Counseling at Communio begins with listening carefully to your story: what is difficult right now, what has shaped you, and what you hope for your future to look like. Together, we develop an understanding of the patterns behind your struggles and a direction for the work. That understanding grows as therapy unfolds, because getting to know you takes more than an initial assessment.

Relational

Understanding patterns in context

Our emotions and struggles do not develop in isolation. Past experiences, attachment patterns, and present relationships can all shape how we respond to ourselves and others. Attachment theory provides a framework for understanding these patterns, while a Catholic understanding of the human person keeps our dignity and longing for communion in view. Communio Counseling draws on Emotionally Focused Therapy and process-oriented, experiential approaches to explore these patterns as they arise. The counseling relationship is part of that work—a place where being understood may open the door to a new, corrective emotional experience.

Hopeful

Making room for a fuller life

Relief from distress matters. So does the possibility of feeling more connected, more able to express what you need, and more free to love and be loved. Communio Counseling approaches growth as something that happens in relationship, with your own hopes and goals guiding the work. This approach is shaped by a sacramental worldview: the belief that God can be encountered throughout life, and that approaching life as gift helps us recognize his presence even in the midst of felt darkness.
