Marital and Couples Counseling
Change is possible
Finding a New Way to Connect
Reaching out for help can be difficult, whether you have been caught in the same argument for years or have only recently begun to feel distant. Couples counseling offers space to slow down and understand what happens between you when connection feels hardest. It can help you address recurring conflict, loneliness, or a loss of trust—and begin to respond to each other in new ways. Couples can also come to counseling before marriage or early in married life to strengthen their connection.
Marriage as communion
A Catholic vision of love and relationship
The name Communio reflects a Catholic understanding of persons as made for relationship. In marriage, two people are called into a communion of love that reflects, in its own human way, the love of the Trinity. That vision shapes how Communio Counseling approaches the practical work of listening, repairing hurt, and learning to give and receive love. A sacramental worldview also invites couples to see their shared life as a gift and to remain attentive to God’s presence, even during painful seasons.
Emotion Focused Couples Therapy
Understanding the cycle beneath the conflict
Communio Counseling uses Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT), an attachment-based approach to working with couples. When partners feel hurt or disconnected, they may fall into a familiar pattern: one reaches harder for a response while the other pulls away, and both end up feeling alone. In counseling, we slow that pattern down and explore the emotions and needs beneath it. As each partner becomes better able to share what is happening inside and hear the other, there is room for a safer, more secure connection to grow.
In research studying the effect of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, about 70–75% of couples moved from relationship distress to recovery, and approximately 90% showed significant improvement.

Marriage & Couples Counseling Options
Ongoing Marital Therapy
For couples who are experiencing significant disconnection, recurring conflict, or patterns that have become difficult to resolve on their own.
Ongoing counseling provides the time and space to understand the patterns that have developed in your relationship, address the concerns underneath them, and work toward greater connection, security, and intimacy.
Newlywed Therapy
Six-Session Package
For couples in the early years of marriage who want to intentionally build a strong relationship or address difficulties that have emerged since getting married.
The first years of marriage can bring new relational patterns, expectations, responsibilities, and conflicts. These sessions focus on understanding those changes and strengthening the way you relate to one another early in your marriage.
Premarital Therapy
Six-Session Package
For engaged couples who want to begin marriage on a strong foundation—or couples who are still discerning whether marriage is the right next step.
These sessions provide a structured opportunity to better understand your relationship, identify important areas of strength and growth, and have conversations that can prepare you for the transition into marriage.
Focused-Issue Couples Therapy
Four-Session Package
For couples who generally have a strong relationship but find themselves repeatedly getting stuck around one or two particular issues.
Rather than beginning open-ended couples therapy, these four sessions focus specifically on understanding the recurring problem, the relational pattern surrounding it, and helping the couple develop a different way of approaching it.
